The Start ups industry being a strong economic potential growing in proximity of the University and Research Campuses, at such a point that some universities are starting investing money directly in companies founded by the students, the workshop investigates the Venetian site of the Area Ex-Gasometri in Santa Marta, as a potential one for the settlement of start ups, because of its proximity to both Iuav and Santa Marta.
The students will be asked to investigate the notion of potentiality, designing a ‘map of potentials’ of the site, a tool which reveals intersections and interferences between the different layers: history –which is that of the stratification of human actions into the materiality of the place, but also that of the techniques of construction-, physical features –materiality, topography, strata, climate, socio-political expectations, economic features, among others.
The map of potential is understood as the essential tool to guide design. As a final output, students will be required to elaborate a strategy of intervention, a process, more than a project for the site.
schedule
The students will be divided in small groups, followed by a tutor.
